If you've been scrolling through wellness content lately, you've likely come across the term buccal massage — a treatment that's been creating serious buzz across Ireland and beyond. But what exactly is it, who is it for, and can you really see results without surgery or needles?
At Aurea Wellness in Trim, Co. Meath, buccal facelift massage is one of our most requested treatments. Here's everything you need to know.
What is Buccal Facelift Massage?
Buccal massage (also known as intra-oral massage) is an advanced facial sculpting technique that works both on the outside and the inside of the face — including inside the mouth — to release deep muscular tension, improve circulation, and naturally lift and define facial contours.
The word "buccal" comes from the Latin bucca, meaning cheek. During the treatment, a gloved therapist works on the buccal muscles — the muscles deep within the cheeks and jaw — that cannot be reached through standard facial massage.
This technique was pioneered in France and has grown rapidly in popularity as a non-surgical, natural alternative to fillers and Botox.
What Does a Buccal Facelift Session Include?
At Aurea Wellness, our Facelift Massage — Buccal/TMJ (Intra-Oral) Therapy + Cranial Release is a comprehensive treatment that combines:
- Facial massage — relaxes surface muscles and improves skin tone
- Buccal (intra-oral) massage — deep work inside the mouth to release jaw and cheek tension
- TMJ release — targets the temporomandibular joint to relieve jaw pain and clenching
- Gua Sha scraping — traditional Chinese technique to reduce puffiness and stimulate lymph flow
- Lymphatic drainage massage — reduces fluid retention and puffiness
- Indian head massage — releases tension in the scalp, neck and shoulders
- Cranial release — gentle pressure on the skull to ease deep tension patterns
The session lasts 70 minutes and is performed in our calm, private studio in Trim.
What Results Can You Expect?
Many clients notice a difference immediately after their first session. Common results include:
- More defined jawline and cheekbones
- Reduced puffiness around the face and eyes
- Lifted appearance around the mid-face and brows
- Relief from jaw tension, clenching and TMJ pain
- Reduced tension headaches
- Improved skin texture and glow through better circulation
- Deep sense of relaxation — the treatment is as calming as it is effective
For long-lasting and more dramatic results, a course of 4–6 treatments (weekly or bi-weekly) is recommended, followed by monthly maintenance. However, even a single session brings visible and felt results.
Is Buccal Massage Safe?
Yes — when performed by a trained and certified therapist, buccal massage is completely safe.
At Aurea Wellness, all treatments are carried out by Tanya, a fully ITEC and FHT accredited holistic therapist with a background in General Nursing. Every session begins with a consultation to understand your health history and treatment goals.
As with all massage therapies, there are some contraindications. We recommend avoiding buccal massage if you:
- Have had recent dental surgery or facial injections (fillers, Botox) in the last 2–3 weeks
- Have active skin infections, cold sores or open wounds on the face
- Have certain neurological conditions — please consult your GP first
If you're unsure whether the treatment is suitable for you, simply get in touch before booking and we'll be happy to advise.
Who is Buccal Massage For?
Buccal facelift massage is ideal for anyone who:
- Wants natural facial lifting without surgery or injectables
- Suffers from jaw pain, teeth grinding or TMJ dysfunction
- Has tension headaches that originate in the jaw and temples
- Notices puffiness or loss of definition in the face
- Wants to maintain results between cosmetic procedures
- Simply wants a deeply relaxing and restorative facial experience
It is equally popular with clients in their 30s who want preventative care, and clients in their 40s–60s who are looking to restore firmness and contour naturally.
How Often Should You Book?
For general wellness and prevention:
Once a month is a great maintenance frequency.
For visible sculpting and lifting results:
A course of 6 sessions (weekly or bi-weekly) is the recommended protocol. Aurea Wellness offers a 6-session Facelift Course with 20% off — one of the most cost-effective ways to achieve lasting results.
For jaw pain and TMJ relief:
Every 1–2 weeks initially, then as needed.
No single scientific definition of the term exists, and it has been applied to a variety of rock features that fall into one of four general categories: - A glacial erratic is a boulder that was transported and deposited by glaciers or ice rafts to a resting place on soil, on bedrock, or on other boulders. It usually has a different lithology from the other rocks around it. Not all glacial erratics are balancing rocks; some are firmly seated on the ground. Some balancing erratics have come to be known as rocking stones, also known as logan rocks, logan stones, or logans, because they are so finely balanced that the application of just a small force may cause them to rock or sway. A good example of a rocking stone is the Logan Rock in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom; another is the Trembling Rock in Brittany, France. - A perched block, also known as a perched boulder or perched rock, is a large, detached rock fragment that most commonly was transported and deposited by a glacier to a resting place on glacial till, often on the side of a hill or slope. Some perched blocks were not produced by glacial action, but were the aftermath of a rock fall, landslide, or avalanche.
